Transformer Screening
The mitigation of stray electromagnetic fields emanating from transformers and associated cables by fully or partially encapsulating the source or sources.
Passive screening is typically installed to the outside of a transformer chamber or building, this may have physical implications on the building structure.
The level of mitigation required would be calculated based on several factors, including, strength of the stray field, material type, material scope and material thickness.
Coreshield are the sole UK supplier for a unique and highly effective light weight screening medium specifically designed for screening transformers, in particular when located on pre stressed slabs and in high rise developments.
UK energy suppliers do not normally allow screening inside their transformer chambers.
Switchgear Shielding
Switch rooms are often located adjacent to transformer chambers and generally would be screened as an integral part of the overall design. Alternately, standalone switch rooms which may also generate unacceptable levels of stray EMF would require similar levels of mitigation.
Riser Shielding
Vertical cable routes through the cores of a building can if unchecked spread stray EMF to every level. This inadvertently creates areas around each building core and beyond that may be above safe operational levels for humans and equipment. The overall effect and scope of the magnetic fields is directly proportional to the amount of current flowing in the cables.

Riser screening should be considered early in the design stage, before M&E services are installed. The type and scope of the screening would be selected based on the riser construction and threat levels of the EMF.
EMF Simulation
To assist with the evaluation and assessment of a particular project we use 3D simulation software. This sophisticated software simulates multiple sources of induction enabling us to correctly identify and quantify the level of EMF mitigation required.
The results provide 3D graphic evidence for project teams to better understand the extent of EMF screening requirements.
